How Stuff Works has posted an interesting article that details how Netflix works — from the recommendation engine to the distribution centers.
Two interesting tidbits:
- Only about 30 percent of Netflix rentals are newly-released DVDs, but at most video-rental stores, 70 percent of rentals are new movies.
- Netflix circulates 95 percent of its 75,000 titles every three months.
Clearly Netflix subscribers enjoy watching more obscure titles.
