Washingtonpost.com has been publishing an excellent high-definition podcast — the first HD podcast I’ve subscribed to.
The episodes cover a range of topics — from Darfur to DC. Each is a short video “postcard.” Among the best are the videos of the presidential primary candidates. There are episodes showing Barack Obama receiving an endorsement by Governor Tim Kaine in Richmond, John Edwards visiting Stonyfield Farm’s factory in New Hampshire, and John McCain touring New Hampshire in his bus. The content is well-edited, free of distracting voice-overs, and does a great job at capturing the texture of a time and place with a great mix of wide shots and close-ups. And the duration is digestable. Most are 5-10 minutes long.
To watch them, all you need is iTunes or a similar program and a high-speed connection (the individual episode files are large — 100 MB or larger). And because like all Podcasts, the files download to your computer, playback is free of stuttering.
